dreams in digital
( for A-M characters )
Before you post your toplevel comment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names comment here, and N-Z names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your comment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

More curious about whether there's any I'd recognize. Unlikely, I'm aware.

[ Kirk did not seem bothered by her 'snooping', or even her presence. He seemed to welcome it, actually. He always did having someone to talk to. To her question he shook his head. ]
Very unlikely. This is a... visualization, for myself. It's not a real system at all.
[ He held out his hand to her, standing kitty corner to her against the table. ]
Jim Kirk, by the way.

[The turns her attention from the display back to Kirk, before taking his offered hand.]
Leia Organa. It's a pleasure.
no subject
[ He squeezed and gave a professional sort of shake - firm, but not aggressive, an acknowledgement of equals. ]
Welcome aboard, Leia. Are you new? To the Fleet, I mean? I don't think I've seen you around.
no subject
[According to some people, and according to records she's looked up for herself and found here. It's still not something she's used to and doesn't think she ever will be.]
no subject
[ He nodded in understanding. ]
That can happen, from time to time. Atroma can call us back from time and space and even other realities.
[ He pointed to his face. ]
There's two of me in the Fleet, for instance. The me that has been here for three or so years. And the me that has been in another trapped reality for the past several years.
[ His smile was sympathetic. ]
It's not the best feeling, is it?
[ He did like having his twin here, but in the beginning? There might have been a tiny identity crisis on the inside for sure. ]
no subject
[Hearing of others that had been here in the past, she'd had that happen before. But two here at the same time? That's new, and unexpected, and something she's not sure how she'd deal with if it happened to her.]
But no. It's unsettling, to say the least, knowing you've left a mark here that you can't remember.

[ He was lucky in that they were getting along. It was almost like having a brother really. Well, a brother who actually felt like one. There had been his real older brother, but he hadn't seen him in almost a decade, so did it really count anymore? ]
I wish I had advice for you on handling that side of it, but I've been a constant passenger for awhile now. It's not my area of expertise.
Though I wouldn't dig to much into what your other did, if you can help it. Spare yourself the headache.
no subject
[Even with that advice, she'd still probably look up any past documents written by her previous self. Not just to know what she was up to, but to know more about the Fleet and what to expect staying here. If there's anyone whose take on a situation she'd trust, it's her own.]
Especially when your previous self has written useful reports for those of us here.
no subject
Heh, yeah, that's always a tough one. I suppose the only other thing I can tell you is that don't worry about being what the other you was, or what they did. You're you, and other people will just have to adjust to that.
[ His mouth twitched in a wry sort of smile. ]
Speaking from that end, it's hard, but it's not fair to you otherwise.
[ His fingers drummed the edge of the holotable. ]
If you're new, I bet you still have a lot of questions, huh?
no subject
[Adjusted, meaning not at all beyond that space travel aspect. But traveling around other planets is an important part of what all this seems to be about.
But that said--]
Whatever's happening now, though, this is new.
no subject
Ah, this.
[ He motioned around them. ]
This is a... dream is the best way to put it, I think. This is what my ship looks like, back home. Except for this holo-table. We don't have this on her back home.
[ He tapped it again, but what could really be done about it?]
Atroma does this, from time to time. Once a year, feels like. Kind of feels like a check up, though god knows I really don't want them checking anything out about me.
no subject
I can't help but agree. It's more than a bit disconcerting that something like this happens that often.
no subject
[ No one really knew. But Kirk was willing to bet a lot. A whole damn lot. ]
You can say that again. Unfortunately, it's one of the things we have to put up with the time being. There's other things too - glitches. Being thrown at unknown planets. We're all just along for the ride right now.
no subject
[She hasn't experienced one yet, unless this sort of thing counted. But she's not exactly eager to find out what it's like first hand.]
At the very least, the planets we've visited since I've been here haven't been intolerable.
no subject
Which worries me. We're due for something... like a calm before the storm. Just getting a bit twitchy with the quietness of it all.
[ He glanced at her, giving her a somewhat wry smile. ]
Sorry, I'm probably not being very comforting, am I?
no subject
To the contrary, I prefer realistic worries to empty comforts.
no subject
[ He shook his head with that reuful smile. ]
Well, good, because I prefer to be honest with people about these things. Forewarned is is forearmed and all, though good luck guessing whatever we might drop into next.

[ He pursed his lips, considering. ]
Not that I can very much tell. We've gone through a series of what one might call pleasant planets, then some that are less so. Really, I think the connector, or maybe the pattern, would be what we end up doing there. Some planets we come to are what one might call "resort" - we play, we have fun, it's relaxing. But then others - others are much darker.
If anything, it feels like Atroma is taking us places, seeing how we react to the traumatizing events, and then taking us places to recover. Which I feel furthers my theory that we are an experiment, and not, as they tell us, a reality show.

[She's never had the time or desire to watch many holo programs even in whatever slight free time she used to have, but she's pretty sure none of them involved involuntary intergalactic kidnapping.]
But there's no reason it can't be both.
