[The room shifted and Veronica was now standing in the rather cluttered office of a minor bureaucrat. There were papers, metal slates, and the like scattered on surfaces. In the midst of there was Professor Lyall at one of the desks, Lord Akeldama - dressed as if he had just come from a ride - sitting in one of the chairs and Biffy laying asleep on the couch, wrapped in a blanket and obviously not much else. It looked like Biffy hadn't shaved in at least a week.

Lord Akeldama spoke first]

So it was death or the curse of a werewolf?

[Lyall nodded]

It was something to see, my lord. No metamorphosis was conducted with much gentleness. To do what Lord Maccon did and not savage the boy in the heat of the need for blood, it was extraordinary. There are not many werewolves who possess such self-control. Biffy was very lucky.

[The look on Lord Akeldama's face was hardly pleased with that and his words were spoken with disgust as he jumped to his feet]

Lucky? Lucky! To be cursed by the moon into a slathering beast? You would have done better to let him die. My poor boy.

[And that's when, quicker than the eye could track, Lord Akeldama moved in front of Lyall and wrapped his hands around his neck, proceeding to strangle him.

But then he was interrupted]

Master, stop. Please. It was not their fault.

[That's when Lord Akeldama stopped strangling Lyall and ran over to kneel in front of Biffy, who was awake and sitting up on the couch.

That's when the memory ended, shifting back to the drawing room, with Akeldama there. He knew she had seen it. It’s bad enough Biffy had seen it and Biffy knew how he operated, how all vampires do. Now others in the fleet were too]

I’m sorry you had to see that. That was the end of a week would not wish to repeat ever again.

[He’d lost his italics and his accent had changed. He was upset]

[The shift makes Veronica slightly dizzy, and she grabs at something to steady herself. But then a scene starts to play out, and her eyes widen. Lord Akeldama, Lyall, Biffy... The actual conversation confuses her, and she starts in surprise when Lord Akeldama moves so quickly she can't even hardly see him.

Of course, she knows about his powers, but to see them... And then to try and grasp what's happening...

Before she can really understand what's going on, she's back to the drawing room, swaying once again. She's never seen Lord Akeldama look so stern, and despite herself, she steps back a pace.

Her voice is shaky, confused.] What...what did I just see?

[He's not surprised in the least as she steps back. He doesn't make a move to close the distance standing where he is]

Unfortunately, it does require some background for how we got in that predicament.

The previous vampire adviser to Queen Victoria was trying to get me out of London so I would not be able to assist my dear Alexia as other vampires were trying to kill her. And he succeeded in making me swarm by kidnapping my favorite drone, Biffy. After a nearly a week, my other drones were able to assist me and I returned to London, only to find Biffy now a werewolf.

What you just saw was how I behaved after Lyall explained whole sorted affair to me, that Biffy had been shot and that the werewolf's bite was the only was to keep him alive.

[Woah. This is...a lot to take in. Veronica rubs at her face, slowly trying to process it all.]

I just saw your memory.

[Okay, that's..weird. But she can roll with this. She takes a deep breath.]

So...Professor Lyall. He was one of your drones too?

Yes, that is one of my memories.

[He's looks off in a random direction, like he is looking at something but there's nothing there. Maybe if this were his actual house, he would be looking at something, but here, nope]

No, he was a werewolf at that time. I never had an acquaintance with the professor prior. He works for the Bureau of Unnatural Registry and at the time, was the beta to Lord Maccon, the werewolf who changed my dear Biffy.

You didn't know him.

[She's starting to understand now what she saw, and shakes her head slowly.]

...I'm sorry. That must have been hard for you.

I did, but only on a professional level. We were not in the same social circles.

[He looks back at her]

It was very hard. I rushed back to protect my drone, but it was already out of my hands.

Still I did not behave as a gentleman should.

[As close as he's come to admitting he shouldn't have done that]
