[ Calibration Rooms ]
( for A-M characters )

Before you post your toplevel comment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names comment here, and N-Z names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your comment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

[He probably shouldn't laugh, but he does.] And people say that I'm trouble. [Perhaps he should touch another one of the purple ones.]

    {OOC: The memory starts at 13:20 and covers all the Keith and Shiro scenes until the end of the episode.}

[The one he touched this time was bright, and very recent. Vash found himself in a large facility filled with strange pods. As Keith walked along the corridor, he paused at one and examined it closer, only to discover Shiro inside... but Shiro without the white streak or facial scar... and with his right arm. It startled him back, and all the pods slowly come to life, each one containing another Shiro. Keith was stunned, unable to react, until he heard a voice... Shiro's voice.]

    Hello, Keith.

[For a moment, Keith was relieved, but there was something wrong. Shiro's eyes glowed with a magenta light that he'd never seen before. He tried to convince Shiro that they needed to get back to the Castle of Lions, but Shiro attacked him instead.

At first, Keith tried to stay on defense. He didn't want to hurt Shiro. But, after a few strikes, he knew he was going to have to do more. He was going to have to defeat Shiro to get out of this with both of them alive. He drew his Galra Blade, transforming it from dagger to sword, and waited. Shiro created an energy blade from his prosthetic arm, and charged in for the attack.

It was hard, and Keith couldn't do it. He kept holding back, falling back, stopping himself... and Shiro was fighting to win... not just win, but to kill. And finally Keith snapped. He swung in hard, going on the offensive with a flurry of attacks until he pinned Shiro against a railing.

Keith didn't look like himself. His eyes had changed, turning almost feral and taking on a yellow hue, and he suddenly had short fangs. Shiro looked amused.]

    That's the Keith I remember.

[The comment pulled Keith back. He blinked, reverting back to his normal appearance. But the hesitation cost him, and Shiro disarmed him. Keith had to run...

Their fight knocked over a scaffold, separating them for a moment. Keith took the moment to plead with Shiro, to get him back...]

You told me you'd never give up on me.

And I should have abandoned you, just like your parents did. They saw that you were broken... worthless. I should have seen it, too.

I'm not leaving here without you.

Actually... neither of us are leaving.

[The facility began to overload... and then so did Shiro's prosthetic arm weapon. In something that might look horribly familiar to Vash, the arm began to spark and transform, firing out a massive beam of energy and damaging the facility. Keith was forced to dodge out of the way. Then, he had to run, as Shiro began firing the laser with more control, and he was aiming for Keith. The facility began to fall apart around him, literally, as the pieces began to break off the moon they were on and fall towards the planet below.

Keith jumped, falling... falling... falling... and barely caught himself on the edge of what looked like a communications dish. He dragged himself up, laying there to catch his breath before spotting his blade, jammed into the dish in its dagger form, but far out of reach. He struggled to move, to get it in his hand... but he collapsed before he got there, mere centimeters from his goal.

Then Shiro landed, having dropped down from above. He moved to make the final strike, but the landing had spurred Keith to move. He heard Shiro's growl and pushed himself against his own fatigue and pain to grab the dagger and parry the strike. Keith tried pleading again.]

    Shiro. Please.

    You're my brother.

    I love you.

[For a short moment, Shiro hesitated, shocked out of his rage by those last three words. But it didn't last long. Shiro tried to get Keith to give up... let go... he didn't need to fight anymore... the others were dead by now... and he kept pushing down on that blade, getting it closer... and closer... Keith turned his head, but he was pinned to the floor. The heat from Shiro's blade started to burn Keith's face and he screamed. For a second, the yellow eyes and fangs returned again...

As if from no where, the Black Bayard came to Keith, springing forth into the form Keith used most... a sword... and, with a cry, Keith swung it upward and into Shiro's arm, cutting it off.

    Shiro fell back.

Keith stood up, moving on pure adrenaline now, and once again back to his normal appearance.

Shiro paused, on his knees, and looked up at Keith. The strange glow in his eyes was gone.]

    Keith?

[Keith deactivated the bayard, but before he could do more, the facility began to explode around them. The dish they were on tilted dangerously, and they started to slide and fall. Keith managed to use his dagger to catch them both, hanging dangerously above the planet. He pulled them up, only to have the metal under the dagger give way and almost drop them again.

This couldn't happen. After all this... to fall? Shiro was unconscious now. Keith could feel the burn on his face, the pain raw and new on top of the bruises and everything else from their fight. He was exhausted. He could give up right now... just let go, like Shiro had said. But memories of their friendship, before Voltron, before Kerberos, flashed through his mind.

They were falling. Keith couldn't release Shiro's hand. He just couldn't.

He remembered their talk outside Admiral Sanda's office, after Keith had punched Griffon hard enough to knock him down for some comments about his parents, and Shiro making his promise that he'd never give up on him. He couldn't give up on Shiro, on himself, on getting out of here, on the rest of the team... they had to survive...

There was a fuzzy moment, something that was in the same spacescape Vash had been in earlier. Shiro, looking more like himself appeared to Keith in what seemed to be a dream. He spoke about how he had died, but his essence had been trapped in the Black Lion. When Keith tried to get more information, he disappeared again... leaving Keith alone.

And when Keith came to, he was in the mouth of the Black Lion, laying on the metal floor next to Shiro, who was still unconscious. He looked up.]

    You saved us.

[There was no answer, but Vash would get the sense that the Lion was worried, hurting, and trying to save its Paladins from dying. That sense of concern for both Keith and Shiro would be the last thing he'd feel before he found himself back in the spacescape for real this time.]

[Vash reaches up and holds his head for a moment. That was... was rough. Why was he always near exploding arms it seemed?] M-maybe I should stop touching things.

I guess that's up to you.

    [Keith watched him.]

That was a difficult fight. Shiro means a lot to me. But, that's not the only thing here.
goldenglasses: Maker on LJ (Huh? What you say?)

It's not? What else is here?

[Keith just put his arms out. They were in seemingly infinite space. They were still near the cluster of colored stars... oranges, greens, blues, pinks, purples, yellows, reds... the purples had the most shades, ranging from magenta to ultraviolet... and there were dim ones, medium ones, and bright ones. Behind them, was a door, seemingly floating in space, and it looked like it belonged to an old rundown house. To their right was a warm orange-red glow, like a fire.]

I mean, if you really want to touch more of the stars, that's fine, too. But they're not the only things here. It's just... you said maybe to stop touching things, so... there are options?

    [Keith shrugged.]

I just feel like I'm intruding a bit I guess. [He looks towards the warm glow and decides to head towards it.]

    tempredmental: (Red Protective Bubble)

[As Vash got closer, he'd feel a strange energy. It felt like a presence reaching out to him, but also playing coy and hard to get. The glow around him grew and soon he was in the hangar bay of a ship. Hovering in a protective red particle barrier, the a massive, red, robot lion waited, inactive, held in place with massive braces and cables. No one seemed to know how to bring down the barrier.

Suddenly, the doors opened and Keith, fresh from Earth, wearing his Red Paladin armor, came running into the room.]

Bingo. Let's get out of here. Open up.

[Keith stepped up to the barrier and placed his hand on it. Nothing happened.]

It's me. Keith. Your buddy. [Still nothing.] It's me! Keeeeeeiiiiith, your—I. AM. YOUR. PALADIN!

[The barrier remained firmly in place... like it was mocking him.

After a moment, Vash, having been feeling Keith's building frustration this whole time, felt a suddenly sheepish idea of knocking on the barrier, like someone had previously suggested it, and he'd thought it was dumb. Keith brought his hand up and gave a small knock. Before any response could potentially happen, though, the doors to the hangar opened again and a bunch of sentries ran in. Keith gave a mental curse, activating his shield as he took cover from the weapons fire as best he could.]

I'm bonding with you! Hey! Come on! We're connected!

[Completely ignored by the lion once again. Keith clenched his teeth for a moment, and then activated his bayard, jumping up and charging at the sentries.]

    You're not getting this lion!

[Keith did his best against them, but he was still new to the whole Paladin thing. His fighting skills from home hadn't prepared him for something on this level, and he was soon in trouble. One of the blasts got through, and Keith barely got his shield up in time to block, but he was knocked back into the console that controls the doors. His shield still in place, he looked at the control, and then at the doors. He slammed his hand down on the control. The doors opened to the vacuum of space and the sentries were sucked out. Keith clung to the console, grunting with the effort, until he was knocked loose by flying debris.

Suddenly, he was flying through space, untethered in the middle of a battle between the massive battlecruiser he'd just been on and two other robotic lions, one blue and one yellow. He was scared... very scared... Even his Garrison training, incomplete as it was from being kicked out, hadn't truly given him the experience he needed to be suddenly getting sucked out into space like that. It was one thing to know what one should do, but it was another to suddenly find oneself in the actual life-threatening situation... especially in the middle of a firefight of three massive space vehicles.

And then... she was there. With lightning speed characteristic of just her, the Red Lion swooped in, opening her jaws and taking Keith out of the battle. Despite her speed, she still managed to grab him gently enough to protect him and keep him from being injured. There was a sudden feeling of warmth and acceptance as Red seemed to thank Keith for saving her and defending her. As the seat slid into place and Keith grabbed the controls, he smirked.]

    Good kitty.

    Let's roll.

[Despite the effort, it was still a fond memory. Keith's relationship with Red was important. She helped him get through some difficult times and gave him a purpose. And for that, he was thankful. She'd help him grow. Keith was no longer her Paladin, but he would always have a fond place for Red and the family she helped him find.

Vash would find himself back in the mental plane, a warm fire where the glow had been. Keith stood next to him, looking over the fire with his arms crossed. He looked amused.

The door, which had originally felt like uncertain and mixed feelings from the past now felt like it would make the dream end if Vash went through it.]

Red was never an easy Lion to bond with. She liked playing hard to get.

As any good lady should. Especially when she has to put up with idiot men who do things without thinking their actions all the way through. [He's talking about the both of them right now.]

Hey... it was the heat of the moment, okay?

[Keith managed a small chuckle, though.]

I tend to act on instinct.

[Keith smirked a bit, snorting a soft laugh through his nose.]

    I get that impression.

[By now, Vash would know that if he wanted, he could open that door and either entire a run down shack or end the dream. It would depend on his desire when he turned the knob.]

[Vash doesn't really like prying into people's head. So when he opens the door he walks out of the dream.]
