[Whether it's wishful thinking in her own consciousness or his excellent hiding skills, she doesn't notice any sign of faltering, leaning in to bump her shoulder to his.]

I'll look forward to the results, then.

[And then it's her turn to feel uneasy, as the glow around them spreads enough that the curtains blocking any exit from this place just... dissolve, leaving them in a circle of black glass surrounded by a soft white light. It isn't blinding or painful to look at. Instead, it's almost reminiscent of the light of creation: bright, beautiful, powerful, but ultimately harmless. It's... an exit, a way to leave this place, and it's something they both know instinctively as it reveals itself.

She glances around, then looks down at their hands, giving his a small squeeze.]

Koko, I... I know you have to go back eventually. And whatever happens next, I'll be okay. But... for a while...

[A bit of the firelight around her dims, because not knowing is one of the scariest things she's ever had to think about, because the idea of losing him again is just awful, but that's their reality now.

Just. Not now now.]

For a while, stay with me?

[That light is familiar and it causes his stomach to drop worse than the endless black curtains had. It's a way out. This place telling him he should leave when all he wants is to stay here forever with his sister, or some semblance of her, where he can remember and they can be safe. It's not a life, but it's better than the one he has out there where he might forget her.

He feels like he shouldn't need to say anything in response to her question. Taako grips her hand a little tighter, turning his eyes away from the light to her face. The fire has dimmed, especially with the glow of the light around them, and that just won't do.]

Sorry to say, you've been stuck with me for over 200 years so you'll just have to keep being stuck with me now.

[He gives her a grin, trying to bring her brilliance back.]

Taako's good in here.

[She'd known that answer would come, but it still means the world to her just to hear it, and she immediately lifts her head to smile so brightly that it almost hurts to look upon. The fire flares up again, this time burning away itself, until at last it peters out and leaves Lup standing before him as she should be, whole and real and in the flesh. She lets go of his hands only so she can fling her arms around him, pulling him into a tight hug, and uses her weight to coax him into sitting down beside her.]

Aw, shit, what a terrible fate. Knowing us, it'll be another 200 before I can catch a break.

[Her voice is muffled, face buried against his shoulder. They might not be all that huggy most of the time but she needs this, here, in a place where he lets her. While he knows her. He's her other half; she wants to remember, for as long as she can, what it feels like to be whole.

Thank you. Thank you.]

[The fire comes back, but with a vengeance and Taako has to look away as it flares around her. When it's gone, he just barely gets a glance of her - whole and full of life again, not a sign of the lich - before she drags him into a hug which he eagerly returns despite the annoyance in his voice.]

You just better not snot on my shirt, goofus, or you really will experience a terrible fate.

[He leans the side of his head against the top of hers, holding her close. Here, no one can see or judge them. Here, he can feel whole and safe. Here, he can hug his sister and reassure her that he'll always be here for her, even if his mind doesn't remember it in the morning.

Here, he can finally be at peace.]
