[Wanda blinks furiously as the vision fades. It hurts to watch that, both because Wanda can't really understand pushing a loving mother away and she can tell that Loki just couldn't stop himself even as he recognized what he was doing. Given what she knows of him, it's not that surprising.

Frowning, she reaches out to touch the tapestry of Thor and Odin. This, at least, she might have seen in Thor's memories already.]

[ Thor's portrait may not react, but Odin's certainly does, painting the new scene before you. Clink. Clank. The sound of chains is unmistakeable as you are marched in front of the Hliðskjálf. The smile on your face never falters. Never wavers.

Don't let them know.

Your mother is there. She pleads, "Don't make this worse."

What a mockery. But Odin's proclamation comes in and Frigga is sent away. Predictable. Odin is so predictable in his ways. You feign nonchalance, the kind you know that would irritate him. Let Odin see the thorn you have become. Make him suffer. They go back and forth. Odin pontificates, you dodge until —

"Your birthright was to die!"

You look on stonily.

"As a child. Cast out onto a frozen rock. If I had not taken you in, you would not be here now to hate me."

And you feel it. The gaping maw of gratitude Odin has always expected. Be grateful, be thankful, be happy that you are the lesser, you had nothing but the crumbs of his legitimacy to feed upon. You don't care if Odin kills you. Why would you? What's left for you, in this place? But Odin's decision was worse. Eternal imprisonment. You stare in shock.

Then.

Then you see it. The slight smirk in Odin's face. There are no more illusions left. ]

[Wanda hesitates when the vision fades, her hand hanging in midair for a moment before it falls to her side. How did he get from that adorable child to this? It seems far more likely that instead of something terrible, it was a thousand tiny real or imagined slights.

She's no stranger to poking around in people's heads, but it feels wrong to investigate much further without checking in on the room's owner. He must be aware of her presence.]

Loki?

[ Loki seems a little … different. Someone seems to have taken a brush to his face, because there are swathes of blue in a zig-zag pattern and one of his eyes seem to be a dark, blood red. His form seems to flicker on and off as if he’s not truly there and his voice tends to distort, like radio static. When you step onto the bridge, you can hear the siren song of the V̵̙͓̦̺͆͗̋ͩ̒ͅo͓͓̹͎̪ͪ͂ͧ̓ͨ̋͞i̭͎̹͍ͤ͊̆d͏͓͔̭̜͚, calling for your oblivion. But he turns to face Wanda. ]

I am here.

[The Void calls to something dark and unhealthy in her that she's learned to recognize and grown not to lean into. She tries to keep her focus on Loki and gently reaches for his arm, intending to tug him away from the edge. He's perilously close

And she knows how this goes. There are reasons she'd let Thor off so easily in Johannesburg and not tried to use Loki or Frigga against him.]

It's a little cold, no?

[She's not talking about the temperature.]

Is it?

[ the cold doesn't bother him anyway, but he's easily led away from the bridge and back into the soft yellow dome that is the observatory. ]

Did you find what you were looking for?

In some ways.

[Emotionally, it's freezing.]

I found things to stay away from. [Which...well, given the occupant of the room, isn't surprising.] What were you doing out there?

I come here often to look at the Void.

[ a reminder, a small bit of darkness lodged in. loki has never spoken about it to others. it's one of the few places he lacks the words for. ]

It is best not to forget.

I don't think you could forget something like that if you tried. You don't need to do that to yourself.

[ he had done this to himself after all. ]

Perhaps I do not know how to stop.

[Well, he really is his own worst enemy sometimes.]

Is there somewhere here you like better?

Here?

[ loki glances at the observatory. ]

Yes, but it is not here anymore. It's kept somewhere else.

We don't have to stay here if you don't want to.

[It's a pretty place, but it's not particularly welcoming.]

No, this is where I'm meant to be. Between the bridge and the rest. This is where I will stay.

[ it's a little sad, the way loki's mind has designed itself. the pain is kept on the outside, but what loki loves is kept safe. even from him. ]

[Wanda frowns.]

Is that what you want?

[ his eyebrows are drawn together. ]

That is a strange question to ask of the mind. But yes. I may not have a strong preference, but I know how to guard my mind well.

It just seems lonely.

[Pot, meet kettle. Wanda's mind also had her metaphorically isolated from everyone.]

[ he chuckles. ]

It would seem that way in here. But I do not think it is lonely. Terrible circumstances may have left their marks on me but I am no longer defined.
