[Cole doesn't try to go anywhere at first. He stands on the grass and lets the wind pull at him, breathing in slow and deep.

And then he starts off to go and find the local. He knows she's there, he can pick up the traces of her. Here. Everywhere. She is this place, but she's within it.]

[Nami can be found amongst the mikan trees on the upper deck, standing on tiptoes to pull some of the riper fruit down from the very top. The trees are only about seven feet, so it's not too hard a stretch.

She tilts her head as if listening when Cole gets closer, and then turns to smile at him, arms full of fruit.]

Hey. Find everything okay?

[He has no idea what that fruit is. He might be more curious, but he doesn't eat, so it's just a passing thought.

He rocks on his feet, tilting his head to look at her past the brim of his hat.]

What was I meant to find?

[weathervain]

Everything, of course.

[She gives the hat a speculative look, and ditches her armful into the nearby bucket, sitting down on the top step to face him.] I mean, you're pretty new. It's a good idea to know your way around before we get into trouble, right?

[Her whole tone is fond, like Cole's kind of an idiot. But a lovable one.]

[Cole pulls his hat on more firmly.

His hat. There's nothing wrong with it.]

Oh. You think this is real.

What do you think I should see first.

[weathervain]

[It's a perfectly fine hat. People on this crew tend to attach a lot of symbolish to their various hats, so...

Her eyes flicker with uncertainty at that statement, but she doesn't contradict him. Instead, she stands again, dusting her hands off.]

Well... first, I guess where you'll be staying. I mean-- if you are staying. If you just want to leave again, I guess we can find you a way home.

I can't go home.

[He can never go home again. He's learned to be okay with that. Because he can make a huge difference on this side.]

I don't sleep. I used to stay with Solas and Jove until they slept, on our ship, but Solas is gone and Jove spends a lot of time with Cullen and Elize now, which is nice.

The wave crests, breaks, surges, ever pushing on.

I don't know what Cole means.

[Hi, Nami. Welcome to conversation with Cole.]

[Well. She mainly follows what he's saying, being a bright sort. Also, you know, wave analogies. She frowns.]

Well, if you can't go home, I guess you're staying. It doesn't matter if you don't sleep. Not like it's the weirdest thing that happens around here.

Cole means a lot of things, but I'm guessing you're not after a literal translation.

It's not my name. I mean, it is, but it wasn't. My name was Compassion, then it was Cole. I answer to Cole now.

[He looks around them again.]

But I guess there are more important things. Why do you want to know?

I meant here. What's important here?

[Though he pauses. A lot of people want money.]

Why money?

[weathervain]

...everything's important here. [It's a puzzled glance she directs at him, that slides up to take in the sails of the ship and then the lawn around them.] It's here, so it's important. Isn't that how it works?

Money is what makes the world go round. It's corrupt to its core, did you know? If I had money, I wouldn't have become a pirate. If my mother had it, she wouldn't have died.

[She hesitates.]

I don't mind being a pirate now, though. But nobody else cares about money here except me. Weirdest pirates ever, huh.

I guess it must be how it works.

[He looks around as well, taking it in again.]

I don't have money. I don't need it. And I've never met a pirate before.

[weathervain]

Well, in a general sense, you can consider yourself lucky. Most pirates are monsters.

...if you don't need money and you've never met people like us, what are you doing here? You're not joining the crew, clearly.

[killedwithlove]

No. I'm just visiting. I want to help if I can, but I can't always help.

[weathervain]

[She smiles.] Well, it's okay, then. I don't need any help. How about I just find a way for you to get home?

[killedwithlove]

Oh, I can't go home. But it's okay. I don't really belong there anymore.

If most pirates are monsters, are you a monster?

[weathervain]

I don't think I qualify. Literally or figuratively. I don't know. I am a pirate, some people might assume as much. I wouldn't blame them.

Why can't you go home?

[killedwithlove]

People call me a demon. I think being a monster is probably not as bad as that.

I can't go back across the Veil. I'm the wrong shape now. I have too much inside and a different outside.

[weathervain]

[She looks him up and down curiously.]

Are you a demon?

[killedwithlove]

[He looks himself up and down.]

I don't think I am. But I could be, if I'm not careful.

[weathervain]

Well then, be careful. Especially while you're on my ship.

[Because it's clearly always that easy. But she's turning away, looking thoughtful.] If you don't want to go home, I guess you could stay here. Luffy likes collecting weirdos. Otherwise I'll put you ashore somewhere.

Who is Luffy?

[He moves a step closer, to see what she's looking at, or if she's just looking elsewhere.]

[weathervain]

[She's just gone back to examining her trees, running her fingers over a few of the fruit and checking for firmness. She turns back to grin at that question, though.]

Luffy's the captain! He's a big believer in hats, too. You can't miss him, just follow the noise.
