Before you post your topcomment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names go to the other post, and N-Z names comment here.
2. Make a note in your topcomment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.
Shawn Hunter
Once you adjust either to the sunlight or to the engine's purr, you find yourself seated somewhere inside a red convertible as it cruises along an empty highway. Miles and miles of road stretch ahead of you, and there's no stopping this impromptu road trip. (Those with motion sickness will find a water bottle and the proper medications beside them.)
There's also a looped song playing from the speakers - it's quiet but irresistibly catchy.
Shawn's sitting in the driver seat, the wind blowing through his hair as he bobs his head along to the melody. So far, he hasn't quite noticed his passenger: all eyes are on the road ahead of him. Every few minutes, a new highway sign pops up, reminding him of where to drive. As each sign passes, their names become clearer - and if you cruise along the highway long enough, you may notice that you end up right back where you started. This road trip's a circular one.
Inside the car, there are a few points of interest, other than the oblivious driver and the highway signs: his glove department, stashed with a few dozen CDs, is ajar; and a few trinkets, including a Class of '98 tassel and a Chubbies keychain, hang off his rearview mirror. There's even a parking permit for Pennbrook University on the windshield.
What draws your attention first?
► The glove department?
► The song on the radio?
► The highway markers?
► The trinkets along his windshield?
► The oblivious driver?
► OR something else altogether (that you'd have to detail)??]
[CAUTION: Some choices may lead to sensitive topics! In the event that it happens, I'll note exactly what kind of content you'll need to watch out for.]

Still, it'd be rude to just complain about it and ask the guy to stop. So, while his eye does pass over everything, he mostly focuses on the driver himself.]
So, uh, where are we going?
no subject
Huh, he doesn't recognize the guy. Must be one of Eric's and Jack's friends. He'd said something about helping them drive new students around - and well, Shawn doesn't break a promise like that. So he manages a smile.]
You ask that on our last road trip before orientation? The road's all ours, man. We can go wherever we want.
[Right on cue, a green exit sign pops up on the right hand side, with four options. A) Topanga Canyon, 5 miles away B) Pennbrook University, 7 miles away C) John Adams High, 15 miles away or D) Cornelius Corner, 8 miles away.
Shawn glances at him expectantly. Although Clay doesn't know it yet, this road trip can last as long as he wants - he can pick all of these exit signs, some of them, or none at all and remain on the highway. OR Clay can start rifling through the items in Shawn's car. Shawn's in too much of a good mood to care.]

He's perfectly content basking in it for just a few seconds before his attention turns to the driver. Young, early-twenties. Carefree, oblivious to his passenger; not exactly a good thing in this situation.. Not that Winter means him any harm. His attention shifts to the surroundings of the convertible- the passing signs, the unchanging terrain on either side of the highway..]
Do you know where you're going?
no subject
[Shawn's grinning as he glances back at his passenger. Hm, an unfamiliar guy. Must be one of Eric's and Jack's friends, a guy from Pennbrook who needed a ride back to campus. He shrugs the strangeness off, tapping his fingers in rhythm to the song.] That's the fun of a road trip before orientation, man. You pick where we go next.
[That's when a green exit sign pops up on the right hand side, with four options:
A) Topanga Canyon, 5 miles away,
B) Pennbrook University, 7 miles away
C) John Adams High, 15 miles away
D) Cornelius Corner, 8 miles away
Shawn glances at him expectantly.] Ooor we can remain on the highway. Your call, man.

[He flashes Sokka a grin, still tapping his fingers against the steering wheel in perfect rhythm to the song.] That's a good question. Why don't you tell me? There's a few exit signs coming up ahead.
You see one you like, you lemme know, and we'll get off the highway.

[The driver is a young man, someone she doesn't seem to know. Was he a fleet member? Why was she suddenly in a car with him?]
[She opens her mouth to speak, but the words catch on her tongue as she registers the sound of music coming from the radio. She listens to it briefly, trying to recognize the tune, but it too is unfamiliar to her. She turns her attention back to her mysterious driver. Her tone is somewhat forceful, but also careful. Clearly, she's a little concerned about potentially scaring this stranger, which, considering he's currently operating this vehicle, did not seem like a good idea.]
Excuse me. Excuse me, but- who are you? Where are we going?
no subject
Funny how he doesn't remember offering it.]
I'm Shawn Hunter. [He manages a smile, though the confusion's still on his face.] I offered to give you a ride, remember? Last road trip before orientation, though I'm gonna be frank - I'm not sure where you wanted me to take you.
Refresh my memory real quick?

D) Cornelius Corner, 8 miles away
Shawn glances at her expectantly. Although Wanda doesn't quite know it yet, she can pick one of the stops, some of them, all, or absolutely none at all. Shawn's not in charge of the itinerary here.] If you don't know, we can stay on the road 'til you remember.

Please don't mind Nami as she scrabbles to hold onto something because, well, of all the things she's experienced, convertibles definitely aren't one of them. She blinks in the bright sunlight and gets utterly distracted by how fast the scenery is flashing by for a moment, before she turns to catch sight of the driver.]
Shawn?
[She's never sure whether knowing them is better or worse.]
no subject
[Shawn grins as he catches sight of her, slowing down the car to what he hopes is a comfortable speed for her (ie, slower than slow).] Glad you could go on this road trip with me.
But uh - you've never been in a car, right? So ask away, and lemme see if I can make your first ride that much smoother.

She closes her eyes for a moment to get used to the change. As she does, she calms down, jamming to the tune. When she opens her eyes, she's ready. ]
You know, convertibles are a step up from my usual ride. Lucky. My friend Chloe drives this old beat-up pickup truck. I'm surprised it even runs, sometimes.
[ She checks out the objects in the car. And- ] Whoa, does this say class of '98? How'd you wind up with a relic like that?
no subject
[Shawn laughs, though it's a nervous one as he turns to look at her. There's no malice or distrust in his voice, just plain confusion:] I graduated high school this year, Max. It's about as recent as a tassel can get.
[Still, he takes it off the mirror for her to look at it better, or even to touch it if she so desired.] See?

I'm fine with any sensitive topic, but list for people reading!
tbh bro i lied, the worst it gets is parental abandonment & hospitalization
[There're quite a few CDs in the glove department, actually. Vash's hand could stumble upon any of them (sadly, none will have the name of the current song playing). His choices are:
A) the Sonic R soundtrack (cued to Super Sonic Racing)
B) A Counting Crows album
C) A smudged album, titled "For Shawn," (which will play a ridiculously familiar theme)
D) Collective Soul album (cw: hospitalization, severe injuries)
E) A Green Day album
F) Nada Surf Album (queued up to "Popular")
Which one does Vash end up picking?]
Y U LIE TO ME!? NOOOO! XD No worries!

Under normal circumstances, bro, I would agree. Think you'd be okay if we took a rain check? I don't think the ladies'd like our kind of music.
[He gestures to the glove compartment stuffed with CDs, as well as the exit sign that's popped up beside Shawn. Curiously enough, it seems to move with the car, as if begging to be read in full.
Additionally, a graduation tassel for the class of '98 and a Chubbies' keychain hang off his rearview mirror.]
