( for N-Z characters )
Before you post your topcomment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names go to the other post, and N-Z names comment here.
2. Make a note in your topcomment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

[Ah. There's the rub. Shawn winces, taking a deep breath as he tries to explain this...]
So, where I come from, the government will take care of people who don't exactly, uh, earn a lot of money. That's welfare in a nutshell. It's not great, and the whole idea's for you to earn enough money so you're not stuck relying on them.
But when you're twelve - or man, was I thirteen? - and John slaps that kind of assignment on you, you don't take it as seriously as you should. I could've written something way better.
I just... you know, chose not to.

And hey! It rhymed! I'm not even good at that! So I hope you passes for that reason at least!

Barely. Mr. Turner kinda took pity on me that time.
[He laughs, though it's a bit of a bitter one.] Trust me. I'm actually way better than I wanted people to think.
no subject
Or worried about disappointing someone if you gave it your all?

[Shawn peers at the road ahead, as if its emptiness is suddenly fascinating.]
I don't feel like it now. I know my friends would've never been disappointed in me - but when you're twelve, man? You look at every action under a microscope and you think about it over and over again and it sucks.

[Unsure if it's the dream like feel or exactly what it is, but Vash is feeling more open than he normally is.]
Or maybe that's because I have the maturity of a twelve year old.

Nothing wrong with that. As long as you know when to give it your best shot - you know, when it really matters - then you're good. Sometimes, I think our group can be way too serious about stupid things.

That was Cory, right? I heard him a couple times, but I never got the chance to meet him.
[Where did he hear his voice? A fleet? ...different car in a fleet he wasn't on?]

[Shawn's smile dims a little, and it may not reach his eyes anymore.] He's the best guy I've ever known. Always had your back, even if he was kinda loud about it.

[Shawn hesitates, because technically he shouldn't call the shots here, but...] How would you feel about seeing more Cory memories? I could take you there, if you're okay with it.
no subject
[He puts the CDs away at Shawn's suggestion.] If you're willing to share. I wouldn't mind at all.

[Shawn goes ahead and takes them off the highway as soon as the exit sign for Cornelius Corner pops up. Like before, the road fades into a memory; this time, they're standing inside a packed restaurant - and Shawn looks way younger than he has in any memory so far. (He can't be more than eleven here.)
"Don't worry about me, Shawn, I was just leaving," a much younger Cory says, turning towards the stairs.
"Why? I got an order of chili cheese fries, extra gravy," little Shawn says, gesturing towards the table.
"Naw, you're too busy with those other guys," Cory replies.
Shawn stares at him as if the kid's grown a third head. "What other guys?"
"The ones sitting at your table."
"So? They'll make room."
"Shawn, they're gonna see you talking to me," Cory says, gesturing to himself.
Shawn's face grows suspicious as he says, "You know, you've gotten real weird since you've been invited to this party. You don't want to hang out with me anymore?"
Cory's almost yelling, so loudly that the entire restaurant hears, "I'M A GEEK!" With a hand, he dismisses everyone's stares, "Oh, like you didn't know."
Shawn pulls the kid away to a booth, "Cory, what're you talking about?"
"I'm the worst kind of geek. I'm a geek who didn't know he was a geek."
A look of understanding washes over Shawn's face. "Cory?"
"Yeah?"
"Do I hang out with geeks?"
"No, that's why I'm leaving--"
Shawn grabs Cory by the arm. "Come on... you're my best friend, man. You've just gotta loosen up."
Cory's a bit stunned that Shawn doesn't think Cory's this proverbial geek, even having to ask to be reassured of it, until Cory asks "Am I cool?"
Shawn laughs. "Of course not."
"Then what AM I?"
"You're Cory. I'm Shawn, just like it's always been. What else do you need to know?"
Cory puzzles over it for a second. "I need to know how to be cool. Like you."
Shawn stares at him in utter bafflement. "I'm not cool."
"Yes, you are!"
Shawn pauses, having to ask for clarification - Cory insists that this place, and the people they're with, is a cool party, and that Shawn is the center of it. Which doesn't sound right to little Shawn at all, because he only wants to be wherever Cory is (no more, no less).
So after some deliberation, Shawn says, "Let's bail."
Cory again rambles about how this proves Shawn's coolness, because he can go wherever he wants and the party will flock to him, but Shawn just stars at Cory as if he's speaking another language. Sometimes, he swears, he's not gonna get this kid.
So he says, with a laugh as he gestures towards the stairs, "Cory? Shut up."
He knows where he wants to be, and if it means ditching a party to hang out with his best friend - then well, he's gonna do just that.]

Seems like you both were the friend that each other needed. By the way, with that hair? You're most definitely a 'cool' kid.
no subject
A cool kid from the nineties, yeah. From what I've heard, most people've got a couple of decades on me now.
