[It takes Beverly a moment to realize that when Peggy says "Jerry," she means the Germans, not a specific individual. She nods solemnly then looks around for her go-to solution in situations like these.]

I don't suppose you have any tea? I could make you a pot.

[ tellingly, her gaze drifts to the room's other half. the apartment, in all its cramped glory. there's a kettle there, and a perfectly good tin of perfectly good tea.

peggy nods, except: ] You're my guest, aren't you? Best let me do the fussing.

[It is Beverly's inclination to argue, to insist when she has been brought here uninvited, but if it will put Peggy at ease...]

All right, if you insist.

Cream? [ she brushes loose hair from her brow and strides across to the very modest kitchenette. ] Sugar?

[Beverly follows her into the kitchenette.] Just a little sugar, please. [Gesturing to a chair.] May I?

Hm? [ oh, peggy's smile is slight. ghostish. ] Of course. Please do. And if the cushion's too lumpy, go ahead and give it a fair good thrashing.

[ and with that she places the kettle on the hob. ]

[Beverly takes a seat. The cushion is indeed a bit lumpy, but she ignores this as well as Peggy's thrashing instructions, only shifting slightly in her seat to attempt to get more comfortable. She nods towards the radio.]

Your radio... Is it broken?

[mucked]

I should hope so. [ she speaks up -- so she might be heard over the sound of sudden gun-fire once again rat-a-tatting from the wireless. ] A bit moronic, otherwise: to purchase a radio that can't make up its bloody mind.

[dancingmd]

[She chuckles.] Fair enough.

[Then she sighs wistfully, resting her chin in her hands.]

I was rather enjoying the music.

[mucked]

Beautiful to dance to, you know. [ ... ] Do you dance? Not that I'm asking -- not like that. But I can't hear the trumpets without thinking about dancing.

[dancingmd]

[Beverly grins and her eyebrows go up suggestively.] Oh well now, I wouldn't mind if you were asking like that. But yes, I have been known to dance.

[Jazz competition winner in St. Louis several times over, but let's not talk about her dancing doctor days. Flirtatious smirking aside, she is actually quite embarrassed about it.]

[ flirtatious or not, the murky truth is that peggy doesn't have much more dancing left in her. or, rather, her dance is saved for someone in particular. she lets out a low and thoughtful hum. ]

Ballroom? Lindy hop?

Both, actually, though I focused more on jazz than ballroom dancing. I did tap as well.
