Before you post your topcomment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names go to the other post, and N-Z names comment here.
2. Make a note in your topcomment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

    No, they weren't.

[He shoots her a strange look. These are dangerous, dangerous waters: Stefan clearly isn't bothered by the disappearing items, but further questioning is Less than Appreciated.]

Hey, if you're gonna stand around and ask questions, you might as well help me unpack.
    resnipstance: defensive, cynical, unsure (46)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-01 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Ooookay then. Dream logic. Whatever. She moves on.]

... All right. Where should I start?
    stefanged: (welp)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-01 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
    Wherever you want.

[Under normal circumstances, he would be way nicer about this, but she DID just question the vanishing items. There's a stack of three boxes, all labeled "Salvatore, 2009," as well as another stack of boxes labeled "Alesci, 2015."

If she wants to ignore his orders - which he won't object to, for the time being - there's also a bedroom to explore, though the desk might be of the most interest, as there's an open diary along with a bottle of bourbon (and two small glasses, thanks to Alex).]
    resnipstance: neutral, curious (63)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-01 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Ahsoka likes being helpful. So she goes for the first stack of boxes, labelled Salvatore, 2009. Gotta start somewhere, right?]
    stefanged: (concentrating)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-01 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Inside the first box she opens, she'll find a plethora of things to unpack. Among them are a Mystic Falls High yearbook, a football jersey, a gorgeous spherical, silver necklace that shines in the light, an Italian cookbook, a leather jacket that smells faintly of bourbon, and a snowglobe.

There's more, of course (books nestled in clothes), but those items speak more strongly, as if they're closely connected to Stefan.]
    resnipstance: shrug, unsure (08)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-02 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[The silver necklace catches her eye first-- mostly because it's the most incongruent of all the items. The other things seem fairly standard for a human male. The necklace... not so much. She picks it up.]

    ... What's this?
    stefanged: (slow smile)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-02 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Before he can answer, the room fades into a crowded American football field, just after a game. As a dark-haired girl waits in the middle of the crowd, a slightly younger Stefan approaches.

"Ooh. Look at you. You look hot in your jersey," she says, and Stefan can't quite help grinning as he closes the distance.

    "What happened? No more cheerleader?"

She almost rolls her eyes as she admits, "I quit. I'm a quitter."

"No, hey, you're not a quitter." Stefan's voice grows sympathetic as he reaches out for her hands and swings them, as if this is the most natural thing in the world. "You suffered a great loss. You're not the same person. You should be looking ahead. You should be starting over. Ok? I hope you don't think this is too soon or too weird, but...I, uh, I wanted you to have this."

He's so nervous, because frankly, he really, really likes this girl - and if something like this scares her off, he doesn't know what he'll do with himself. Still, he opens up a box with the silver spherical necklace, and his girl takes it out for him.

    "Oh my god. It's beautiful."

"It's something that I've had forever, and, uh, I've never wanted to give it to anyone until now. I'd very much like it if you'd wear it for me, for...good luck." He's so rambling at this point, and he knows it, but he can't help it. This girl does crazy, crazy things to him.

She holds it up to her face, and she pauses for a bit before, "Is that rose that I smell?"

"No, it's, uh...it's an herb." Vervain, if he were honest. Vervain, the one herb guaranteed to protect her from anything that went bump in the night, because some creatures can't stand the smell. "It's nice, huh?"

    "I love it."

As he helps her put on the necklace, with her pulling back her hair so he can see the clasp, Stefan can't help feeling like this is the most natural thing in the world. In this moment, he's normal, she's normal, and this may actually be a great year of high school.

So of course, he has to say, as he closes the clasp, "And, uh, I wanted to thank you for pushing me to try out for the team. It feels really good."

Once he's done, she turns back to him and says, with a laugh, "We're a pair. I quit, you start."

"Right." Stefan leans in close and laughs. "We're a work in progress. We'll figure it out."

She stands on the tips of her toes to give him a kiss. They stand there for a few seconds, before reluctantly letting go - and as the room fades back into Stefan's bedroom, he tilts his head at Ahsoka.]

    Huh.

[A slow smile crosses his face.] I was wondering where that necklace wandered off to.
    resnipstance: fond smile (38)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-03 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh. Ahsoka allows the warmth of that memory to just wash over her for a minute, smiling softly. So this is what she could've had, if she hadn't been a Jedi. Attachment...

    It feels nice.

She hands the necklace out to Stefan.]

... I saw you giving it to a girl.
    stefanged: (kinda hopeful)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-03 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
    [ > I'm keeping this memory.

Stefan accepts the gift, taking it and holding it in his palm, as if it's the most fragile thing in the world.]
    Elena, right?

We were... we went through a lot together back home. [To put it lightly.] Back then, I'm pretty sure I would've given her the entire world, and then some.
    resnipstance: skeptical (60)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-04 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
    "Would have"?

    ... Not now?
    stefanged: (unsure)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-04 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
We broke up a couple years ago.

[He feels like he should be angry, or even resentful - but he just sounds sad.]

Things got complicated, and I don't know... [He shrugs, glancing over at the rest of the box.] I'll always love her. I don't think that'll change. But it's not like... it's not like it used to be.
    resnipstance: hesitant, unsure (85)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-04 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
... Oh. [Awkward.] I'm ... sorry to hear it.
    stefanged: (slight lineface)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-04 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay. [He means it too, even if his smile doesn't quite reach his eyes.] Things change. We may not love each other like that anymore, but we're still friends, and that's what matters... right?

[The rest of the box's waiting to be unpacked, should she want to finish it. Noting her discomfort, Stefan reaches for the Italian cookbook too and holds it out to her.]

This was the only other thing related to her. Everything else.... not so much, but you can still take a look.
    resnipstance: neutral, thoughtful (26)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-04 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's good you still have that friendship, then.

[She smiles and takes the cookbook.]

... Thank you. [She flips through to see what's in it.]
    stefanged: (staring down)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-04 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
[As she flips through the cookbook, the room again fades - this time, she's standing inside a family kitchen. As the same dark-haired girl enters through the glass doors, Stefan's standing at the kitchen counter, chopping ingredients for dinner.

She speaks first, "Stefan? What are you doing here?"

"Dinner. Jeremy, [her kid brother], told me that Chicken Parmesan is one of your favorites, and I happen to be a good cook. The Italian roots demand it. I can even make my own homemade mozzarella." Here, he holds up a plastic container, "Only tonight, it is unfortunately store bought. Sorry."

"I don't know what you're trying to accomplish," she says as she approaches him.

"You want to know me, right? Well, I figure if you're going to dump me, you should at least, um, know who you're dumping. So let's start with Katherine."

Katherine, his deceased ex-girlfriend, had led to this whole mess - and even though Elena doesn't want to hear about the ex, Stefan knows he has to broach the subject. They can't stay on the same page if she's always wondering about Katherine. So he describes her, as the beauty she was, and then, he says (to Elena's surprise) -

"BUT Katherine was also very impatient and entitled and selfish, and, um, impulsive. Enter Damon [Stefan's older brother]. He claims that he was with her first. I don't know. I do know that I did some things that...I'm not proud of." Things that frankly, he regrets every single day of his life.

"My biggest regret...is not being able to make it right before she died. I miss her, but...I'm no longer crippled by her loss." Hard to be, when she was a faint memory to him (and his brother had brought her up for the sake of drama).

He must've hit the right notes, then and there, because soon enough, they're making dinner together, rather than her just idly watching like a bystander. (Chopping up garlic together, in fact!)

Stefan's talking more about himself, rapid-fire, "I'm an avid reader, a huge Fitzgerald fan... but I'm no snob. I love some good Grisham. I think "Seinfeld" is the best American television show for the past 50 years, but "I Love Lucy" is all-time. "The loving cup" episode was the best, I think. Huge Scorsese fan. I can watch "Taxi Driver" over and over again. ... As far as music, it's pretty much across the board. Um, Dylan, Hendrix, Patsy, Willie. A little Kanye. You know what? I even like that one Miley song."

Elena smirks at him, with that yeah right expression on her face. (Even in his memory, Stefan knows he can't fool anyone.)

"I didn't say anything.," Elena protests, upon seeing his face. "This is for the garlic bread, right? Because I'm not eating garlic unless you agree to, too."

"Are you kidding? I love garlic--"

At that moment, Elena cuts her finger on the knife. "Ow!"

    "You okay? Uh..."

Elena nods, heading to the sink to wash her hand. As she looks in the reflection of the window, she can see something subtly shift in Stefan's reflection--

    "Your face..."

The memory grows fuzzy here; Stefan's turning around, saying, "I think I got something in my eye," and his heart's pounding way too fast because she can't find out. Not here. Not now.

"Stefan? Stefan! Hey, I think that my paranoia has turned into full-blown hallucinations."

He turns around to face her, as if nothing had ever happened. "It's part of your charm."

This time, it's Elena who kisses him first - and as the memory fades back into the bedroom, Stefan's expression is pretty somber.]
    resnipstance: neutral (56)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-04 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
[That was cute, but... something was off about that memory. Towards the end. Her brow furrows.]

    ... What happened there?
    stefanged: (making faces)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-04 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
    I don't know.

[It's the truth: Stefan doesn't actually remember this. Or the other memory of Elena, if he were frank.] I'm guessing that I didn't remember what actually got in my eye.

God, I swear, if I was embarrassed about an onion...
    resnipstance: neutral, curious (63)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-04 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's right. It was right after... Elena? Elena cut herself on the chopping board by accident. Then suddenly... whoosh. Blank.
    stefanged: (tell me about it)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-04 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
    Weird.

[He furrows his brow, staring down at the cookbook.] That shouldn't have been a big BLANK. It ended with a kiss and her thinking I got something in my eye.

Sorry, Ahsoka. I'm not sure what's going on with my memories.
    resnipstance: skeptical (60)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-04 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
... Is something interfering with them?

[She looks around the room then, as if she could magically spot the interference from where she's standing.]
    stefanged: (oh really now?)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-04 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Good question. One he's not willing to answer truthfully, because that would raise even more questions.]

I'm the only one that can interfere. My best guess? I actually was super embarrassed about crying in front of her.

    [He shrugs.
    > He'll keep this memory too.

If she wants to pick out one or two more items from the box, before he unpacks the rest, she's more than welcome to! Otherwise, it's off to either Alesci, 2011 or Salvatore, 2012.]
    resnipstance: unsure, worried frown (05)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-04 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Hmmm. May as well go in chronological order, she supposes.

    She picks up Alesci, 2011.]
    stefanged: (Default)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-04 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
[When she does, Salvatore, 2009 vanishes in the same flash of light that Stefan's items from earlier had - except, this time, the items migrate to various corners of the room. Stefan's football jersey & leather jacket hang in his closet; the cookbook, yearbook, and snowglobe appear on the bookshelf (and stay there); and even the necklace now hangs from the wall, prominently displayed near the bed.

As for Alesci, 2011? When she opens the box, she'll find the following: an college acceptance letter to Princeton University; a simple silver band ring, with the name 'Alesci' etched inside; a wedding announcement for Damon Ibrahim Alesci & Bonnie [smudged name] and seven-novel-long book series, some YA novels about teenage demigods.

Which one will she unpack first?]
    resnipstance: skeptical, judging (71)

    [personal profile] resnipstance 2015-11-04 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
    [Ugh, books.

She picks up the silver ring, curious.]
    stefanged: (staring down)

    [personal profile] stefanged 2015-11-06 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
[When she does, the room fades, this time into a family kitchen. A middle-aged man's hovering over a saucepan with caramelized sugar, and the scent wafts into the air as he carefully pours it into one of those creme brulee baking dishes.

A much, much younger Stefan - he can't be more than sixteen - is standing at the edge of the kitchen, waiting until his father's done pouring the sugar before he rushes to help.

"Ah, Stefanizo," The man says, with a warm smile on his face as he observes his boy helping.

Stefan's face grows slightly red. "Baba, why didn't you ask Olette to help you with this? You KNOW she lives to bake."

"I could've, but my son only turns sixteen once," Baba says, with a twinkle in his eyes as he finishes the recipe. As he turns on the oven, he and Stefan move back towards the wall counters - and it's not until the caramel custard is safely in the oven that he rummages for something in his pocket.

Stefan folds his arms as he observes his father. "Yeah, but..."

But Baba didn't have to go to the trouble of making caramel custard. Even if that is Stefan's second favorite dessert in the whole wide world, and even if Stefan wanted nothing more than to spend the evening with his dad.

He can't get the words out, not before Baba holds out a small, simple black pouch. "I thought you were old enough to have this."

Stefan blinks back surprise, reaching out for the pouch and opening it to find a silver band. Holding it closer, he then finds the name 'Alesci' etched inside.

"Nonno used to wear this, and my dad after him, and well... I figured, it was your turn." Baba's face is nervous, even if he's grinning from ear to ear.

"What about Damon?" Stefan turns the ring over, as if expecting to find some other hidden meaning. "He's your oldest."

    "He also got Nonno's watch."

Dangit. Figures that his older brother would get the better, cooler jewelry - and what does Stefan get? The one simple piece of jewelry that could get mistaken for a wedding ring. Still, he accepts it with a smile. "Thank you, Baba. I know this means a lot."

So, in plain sight of his dad, he slips the ring on.

Baba kisses him on the forehead. "I'm glad you like it. I'm going to grab something real quick, so hang on a second."

As Baba leaves, the ring on Stefan's finger starts to shake uncontrollably. Stefan stares at it, at the ring changing shape right before his eyes. Gone is the silver band; in its place is an ornate lapis lazuli ring, one that's nearly twice as big.

"Crap," he mutters under his breath as the memory fades back into the bedroom. "Baba's SO not gonna like this."]
