...And also these.
( for N-Z characters )
Before you post your topcomment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names go to the other post, and N-Z names comment here.
2. Make a note in your topcomment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

[ Stopping in front of him, ]
A king in your own mind. Those who think so are either mad or great. Which are you?
no subject
and he answers with a little shrug of one shoulder.]
Oh, I don't know, really... I've been called both, often enough.
...And what about you?
no subject
I am a demon. We are neither mad nor great. We simply are as our nature dictates.
no subject
[he looks pleased about it, really.]
And I wouldn't sell yourself short. To go marching up to something you suspect to be either powerful or insane and accuse them as being such, in the center of their own realm... I think you might qualify for one or the other.
...What's your name?
no subject
[ But now she's content to lack fear. Why would one monster fear another? Like knows like. ]
I am Nyssa, daughter of Ra's al Ghul. And you?
no subject
And you may call me Tek, if you'd like.
[he gets her name and a family tie, and she gets only a nickname.
straightening up a further until he's finally sitting up properly, he leans forward a bit, curiously looking her over from the center of his nest.
and as he moves, the reflections in the battalion of mirrors move as well, of course... but it's suddenly clear that they're not quite behaving as they should, beyond that.
for one, his lovely guest is not reflected in any of them. they only show the host of this room, but not one of them show the image that they should. each figure follows his motions as a mirror might, but they look very different from one another. in one mirror, there is a woman in a drab cloak seated in the nest, instead of the man. in another, it's a small, strange-looking child. another shows someone with gnarled, feral features, and yet another shows something monstrous that is far too large for the little mirror framing it. on and on, the variations go.]
no subject
[ She has no need to demand his respect or obeisance, so she says nothing further and asks for no more. ]
Well-met, Tek.
[ The mirrors catch her attention, next, and unsurprisingly, she's drawn to the monstrous thing that fills up the frame. ]
What is that?
no subject
the reflections all turn with him, and he and the monster in the mirror stare right at each other, but he shows no indication of seeing anything out of place.]
...What is what?
no subject
Can you see what is here?
no subject
Of course I can.
...Have you never seen a mirror before?
no subject
I've never heard sarcasm before, either.
[ She squints at it, utterly unperturbed by you know. the rows and rows of sharp teeth. And places her palm flat on it. ]
no subject
because the monster is much bigger than the reflection had first made it seem. it's roughly the size of a three-story building, and it literally seethes power. this beast is plugged into the bones and blood of the earth, a literal font for all the energies of death, poison, and decay. the light in its eyes, flickering in the depths of its throat, and wisping out like smoke along its skin is where this energy literally overflows.
there is this abstract sort of certainty that this one creature has the ability to cause an event that would make a mark in history books... and there are many here. as it charges forward to leap over the heads of the soldiers before it, gliding low over whole ranks of them, the forms of other great beasts can be seen in the distance.
despite the darkness and the smoke, it's clear that this land hasn't seen a war like this in centuries, and with how directly tapped into death this creature is, the girl connected to the mirror can feel as clearly as it does, exactly how many lives are being lost.
it doesn't take long until the dragon finds a group of infantry that have already been wounded. they're weak and struggling. death is already at their heels, so all the beast needs to do is swoop in, let the latent, lethal energy breathe out, and help them all on their way.]
--If you wanted an excuse to admire yourself in the mirror, you could have just asked.
no subject
[ Real power never needs asserting loudly, it is there, infused; it's worn like a crown, and the dragon is a king in its own mind. ]
[ She looks over at Tek, curiously. ]
I have no need of mirrors. [ a beat ] Where are your wings, and scales? Why do you hide yourself?
no subject
he doesn't blink or emote as much, and every motion is measured. he seems colder, but it's a casual sort. why bother with warm, unnecessary mammalian details when she already knows what he is?]
Oh, you know... those sorts of things attract all kinds of attention.
And I've found that it's hard to carry on a conversation with someone when all they see are rows of teeth.
no subject
[ She shrugs. ]
Those who fear the truth or are unsettled by it aren't worth keeping around, in my opinion.
no subject
[if he'd been dressed in his true form, he'd be flicking his tail like feline right now. there is at least the sense of it, as he looks her over.]
...How old are you?
no subject
[ old enough to know, young enough to learn. ]
no subject
[oh yes, he sounds skeptical.]
no subject
Aren't we all?
