You feel a hand on your arm, large, warm, familiar. You pause, turning your head to give Anomen your attention.
"You see this flower I have picked?" He holds up a red wild flower, offering it to you with a smile. "Tis a rare find. A Crimson Rhodelia, I think."
He goes on, comparing you to the flower, ladling flattery at you. You smile back, weakly, and wonder what's wrong with you. Anomen is handsome, respectable, and is the only person to ever seriously pursue you romantically. But then again he's arrogant, spoiled, and has, on more than one occasion yelled at you for no actual reason. He does care for you, in his way, but it feels more like he wants you because standing by your side, he's not nearly so badly off.
Are you a thrill? An impulse? Just another way for him to thumb his nose at his father? It really doesn't matter, because even if you wanted to ignore all those possibilities, the fact remains that you've nothing to offer. Your past, present, and future are only death and chaos.
While you were lost in your thoughts, Anomen, as sensitive to your moods as ever, has tucked the flower into your hair, and is leaning in. Skillfully, you step back, before he can do what you think he was aiming for.
"A thoughtful gesture, Anomen. We should hurry up. We've fallen behind." You turn and walk quickly to catch up to the rest of the group. You wonder if he's getting the message. You may not want him, but you don't want to hurt him either.]

it sates his need for something that makes him feel a little better--sure, it's not a joyous story, but it's less upsetting than the first one. maybe kind of satisfying, that little bit of discomfort.
what a bitter person he is--but he puts that book back. he looks over a few other books, but since he doesn't understand any of the titles, he eventually wanders to look for another section.
restricted? has he earned that?
