The ideology of the Jedi is that to be one with the Light, we must act selflessly and for the good of the universe as a whole, not in our own interests. The more attached you are to someone... the more difficult it becomes to let go. And if the time comes when you have to choose between saving thousands of people or saving one person important to you... as a Jedi, you have to be relied upon to make the right decision.

That's not right. I mean, if you do find someone you really care about like that, the other person should understand-- even want you to do what you have to. They can drive and motivate you to be better.

The real reason I suspect is more to keep us from creating Jedi dynasties. Back when Jedi were allowed to marry and have children, it definitely turned into a problem.
There were more Dark Side users back then, too. So maybe there is something to it.
