( for A-M characters )
Before you post your toplevel comment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names comment here, and N-Z names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your comment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

Is this what it is? What's in your head?

[ He pointed to the sun. ]
Me.
[ He pointed to two planets, seemingly bound together in a circular dance as they slowly spun around the sun's orbit in tandem. One was a sandy sort of gold mixed with whitish silver. The other sported the same silver mixed in with a warm chocolate. ]
You and Biffy.
[ Welcome to the family, Lyall. It will take quite a lot to dislodge you two from your orbits. ]

... It's beautiful.
[But then, did that mean...]
Are all of the others people who are dear to you as well?
no subject
[ His eyes flicker over to dark comets and smattering of asteroids along the edges - dark and sharp and cold compared to other multitudes of planets within the main display. ]
Not all dear, but the majority, yes. A fairly good portion are people I've met here in the Fleet, even if they aren't here anymore.
no subject
[Should he? Can he? In all of these strange visits, Lyall has tried to avoid stepping where he shouldn't. Even in people's subconscious, he had tried to be inconspicuous.]

[ Kirk motioned for Lyall to try, his smile a touch wry. He couldn’t say what would come from it. He never could. He had to many memories to count, to remember even. He was curious, though, which Lyall would choose. The blue and black and silver? The cracked, sandy red? The vibrant silver and red? The nova? The comets? The asteroids? Lyall’s choices were myriad. ]
Hopefully none of them change your opinion of me.
no subject
[Yes, there were a lot of choices... but really, when one wanted to know about another person, there was only one choice to make.
Lyall just stares straight up at Kirk's face and... sticks his hand into the sun at the center of the galaxy.]

The planets and stars disappeared, a new scene appearing in full color, though with the slightest of cyan tints from the holotable. It was some sort of assembly hall, everyone dressed in what looked like formal attire. A man in gray and white reached for a medal and pinned it to Kirk's breast, ordering him to report to Commander Pike as his relief. There is some wryness in the man's tone, and a twinkle of amusement in Kirk's eyes as he turned to a man not five feet away in a wheelchair with silvered hair, the both fo them sharing a private joke as they exchanged words.
Beneath it all ran another quiet refrain.
The memory faded, fizzing as the planets resumed their dance. ]

He was completely unsurprised to see how cheeky and cocky Kirk looked in that memory. It looks like this was an ingrained character trait.
He pulled his hand back, and briefly went to brush against the two planets Kirk had designated as himself and Biffy. He was a bit curious, he had to admit.]
no subject
It's the wedding.
More specifically, the part where Lyall and Biffy exchanged their vows, gazing at each other like no one else in the world mattered, like the stars moved because the other existed, and would go out the minute the other left this world.
It was how Kirk wanted to remember these two - so deeply in love, so happy with each other. It was a rare sight in Kirk's estimation, and he had been privileged to witness it on such display.
The memory faded out and the planets resumed their orbit.
Kirk glanced at Lyall, smiling a touch wryly, with a little pink on his cheeks. ]
I'm sure my memories don't do the moment justice.
no subject
Why would they not? Everyone who was there is dear to us.
no subject
[ He rubbed the back of his neck and smiled. ]
I have other memories of you guys, of course, but that one... I don't know. I just know that I'll always remember that moment.
[ It wasn't always great with his words. He tried to be, but the emotion that memory brought up in him, the joy of it - what words could he have? The pride in being trusted to share it with them. It meant a lot to him. ]
How's married life treating you, by the way?
no subject
[The ceremony was nice, sure, and he liked how happy it made Biffy, but for the day to day of things... it's pretty much the same, except...]
I guess I have gotten used to wearing the ring.
no subject
Hah, not at all actually. I think when that happens - those are the marriages that last, you know?
[ His eyes drifted down to the ring, thinking of the one his twin now wore on his own finger. He smiled softly and brushed his leather bracelet - which right now was as close as he wanted to get to a ring, but it meant very much the same. He held it up for Lyall to see. ]
I can understand the feeling. Not quite a ring, but - it has a similar sentiment.
no subject
[He's just guessing, but from their scent, they did seem awfully close. A lot closer than even people who could only see them could assume.]
Is there anything else you would recommend I look at? I wouldn't want to intrude overly much.
[Because, well... he's already intruding quite a lot, to be honest.]
no subject
Got it in one.
[ He tapped his nose, and then looked around the room and back at Lyall. ]
Is there something you would like to know?
[ He was okay with Lyall seeing. He was a friend, a trusted one. Lyall knowing these things hardly felt intrusive. ]
Or would you prefer to be surprised?
no subject
Somehow, I have to come to expect it of you.
[And he could do with a bit of excitement, probably.]

[ Kirk chuckled, debating as he walked around the table, finally reaching out and flicking one of the inner planets. The table fizzed and crackled, as it always seemed to do when switching modes. Kirk bit his lip when he recognized what was being played out, this particular moment still one of mixed emotions, though looking back he found it mostly funny. It had been a moment that changed his life after all - the moment he met Christopher Pike.
When the memory faded, he glanced at Lyall, a rather sheepish smile on his face. ]
no subject
I am glad to see that being, rash, impulsive and a commensurate flirt are apparently innate qualities of yours and not something you have acquired through experience, Captain.
no subject
[ He chuckled. ]
It was worse back then, actually. This is me calmed down, believe it or not.
