dreams in digital
( for A-M characters )
Before you post your toplevel comment, please:
1. Check the first letter of your character's name as its written in our tags. A-M names comment here, and N-Z names go to the other post.
2. Make a note in your comment if anything especially triggering or graphic might show up in the Calibration. If you're not sure if something's worth noting or not, we suggest listing it anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
3. Put your character's name (it can be shortened or different from the tag, this time) in the subject of your comment. This will help visitors find you easily, and help us update the list below.
4. Post your comment! It's fine if everyone's Calibrations end up looking and reading very different from one another. As long as you're having fun and following our guidelines, you're good to go. :)
5. If you have any questions or concerns during Calibrations, you are welcome to send them towards the mod team at any time, as always.

When Lance sits, the view screen fizzes, the view of the planet fading and a new one arising, one of Kirk and at least two others, standing on what appears to be the bridge of the Enteprise. The scene plays out, tense to say the least. Kirk certainly younger, and there is the sense that this is a pivotal moment.
When the memory ended, the view of Earth returned, starkly serene compared to the battle just seconds before. ]

He frowns.
Jim looked a good amount younger there, so he can believe that it was a stupid stunt of youth, but it still bothers him a little. If someone had said those kind of things to Allura, Lance would have beaten them to a pulp and them some.]
Jeez, Jim. Bowl cut guy really beat the shit out of you. Love you, man, but you deserved that one.
[He gets out of the chair, humming as he continues to check out the bridge. He eventually finds himself at the helm, brushing his fingers over the pilot controls.]

When Lance touched the pilot's console, the screen yet again fizzed, a new scene appearing, of Kirk at the helm, though the ship looked... different. Darker. Busted, even. Old. Ancient, really. And whatever was happening, it was tense, to say the least. Kirk gave the order to start playing music, and from there... well from there it was something out of a crazy sci-fi action movie. But damn doesn't it look cool?
The scene ends and once more Earth returns to view, a stark contrast to the action of moments ago.
And Kirk decides Lance has poked around just about enough. He steps into the space, a cup of coffee in hand. ]
Enjoying the Enterprise, Lance?

Wow.
Holy fuckdoodles.
WHOA.
Lance's troubled feelings are temporarily shoved to the backseat as he gapes at the current scene before him. It's one of the most incredibly badass things he's ever seen, and being a part of Voltron, he knows his badass space stuff! By the time he finds himself back on the bridge, he's laughing, hardly believing what he saw was real.
His head snaps up when he hears Jim's voice, though.]
Oh! Yeah, uh. This your girl?

He went to his chair and sat, crossing his legs and sipping from the mug (though who knew if it actually provided sustenance or a caffeine boost - it was probably just the ritual of the gesture in this dream world). ]
Yeah, she's mine. Or, at least, a dream version of her. Close enough to the real thing though. Federation Starship NC-1701 U.S.S. Enterprise. Though the one in that memory you just saw was the U.S.S. Franklin.

[There's a little chuckle, and he leans back against one of the control desks. Of course, he hasn't forgotten about the first thing he's seen, but he'll ease into that.]
Your crew seemed interesting.

It only worked because the particular beat and wavelength of the song was enough to break apart the connecting frequency. We got lucky - even luckier that Jaylah had managed to preserve it so we could use it.
[ They had been very lucky that particular day, and he would never forget it. ]
They're one of a kind - all of them.

[He nods, but his smile starts to drop a little.]
...So, about that first thing...

[ He took a breath. Ah. Yes, that thing. Well, he couldn't just ignore it now could he? Lance had seen it, and there wasn't any use deny it either. He took another sip of his (maybe real) coffee. ]
You mean the thing where I goaded Spock and he, rightfully, attempted to choke me out on the station over there?
[ He nodded to said station, even walking over a bit to it. ]
It's not the proudest moment of my career, I can tell you that. At the time, though, it was the only thing I could think to do. It was quick, inelegant, and cruel - but I made the choice because I couldn't let him drop us all into a trap. I wasn't even supposed to be on the ship. I was practically under court martial. But I had a plan - a plan I believed could save us, save Earth. But I needed to take the captain's chair, which Spock currently had. One of the few ways to force a captain from his chair is to show he is emotionally compromised - that is, unable to perform his duties.
And Spock had just lost his entire planet. Vulcan had been destroyed barely hours before - his entire species, all but annihilated, including his mother.
Like I said, I'm not proud of it. Of what I did. I'm lucky that he forgave me for it, later. That he's one of my best friends. But I made a choice - Spock's feelings, or another billion lives.
[ He touched the panel he had been thrust against - or at least the memory of it. ]
Turns out the gamble worked. We beat Nero and saved Earth.
