[Thor knows what this is almost before the image is finished coalescing. He watches it play out with a tight expression, Loki's feelings jarring with his own. They aren't any less real but they scrape against him uncomfortably. It wasn't as though Thor didn't know Frigga had been visiting Loki; she hadn't denied it when he had come across her in the midst of one of these conversations. But she had never said what they discussed, and this is a nasty little thing to know.

More than that, it's just sad.]

She wasn't wrong. [He says it aloud, to the tapestry.] And I think you knew that.

[Shaking his head, Thor turns to look at the tapestry of Odin and himself. He doesn't much fear seeing memories of himself so he reaches to touch his own image first. What he isn't sure of is the sentiment that will be behind it.]

[ except there's . . . nothing. not even a brief sensation or a feeling. ]

[What?

...

No, that can't be right. Thor removes his hand and tries it again, in a different place.]

[ nope. it doesn't seem to react whatsoever. ]

[Fuming, Thor tries it a few more times, to no avail. Finally he has to step back and scowl at the portrait. What is that supposed to mean? He had expected something out of it, even if it had been unpleasant. His had the same lustre as his mother's, so shouldn't it react the same way?

Maybe he's misjudging this space. Setting his jaw, Thor opts to try Odin's instead. See if that does anything.]

[ Thor's portrait may not react, but Odin's certainly does, painting the new scene before you. Clink. Clank. The sound of chains is unmistakable as you are marched in front of the Hliðskjálf. The smile on your face never falters. Never wavers.

Don't let them know.

Your mother is there. She pleads, "Don't make this worse."

What a mockery. But Odin's proclamation comes in and Frigga is sent away. Predictable. Odin is so predictable in his ways. You feign nonchalance, the kind you know that would irritate him. Let Odin see the thorn you have become. Make him suffer. They go back and forth. Odin pontificates, you dodge until —

"Your birthright was to die!"

You look on stonily.

"As a child. Cast out onto a frozen rock. If I had not taken you in, you would not be here now to hate me."

And you feel it. The gaping maw of gratitude Odin has always expected. Be grateful, be thankful, be happy that you are the lesser, you had nothing but the crumbs of his legitimacy to feed upon. You don't care if Odin kills you. Why would you? What's left for you, in this place? But Odin's decision was worse. Eternal imprisonment. You stare in shock.

Then.

Then you see it. The slight smirk in Odin's face. There are no more illusions left. ]

[A chill runs through Thor, an echo of Loki's own shock. The outcome of this judgement was nothing Thor did not already know. But the details of it - Odin had never said. Of course he hadn't. Thor had not asked him, Odin had not deemed it worth mentioning. There had been so much manoeuvring between them all even when not in the same room. And Thor had wanted nothing to do with this. Not while his anger and hurt at Loki's actions had still run hot.

It's difficult to shake off, even as Loki's feelings slide away to be replaced with Thor's own. This bitterness lingers under his skin. Watching the frozen portrait of his father with a pinched expression, Thor has to wonder again why his own inspired no similar reaction.

Finally, he turns to Hela's tapestry. This one he knows the least about; fitting, really. He extends his hand to touch the image of their sister.]

[ This one may feel more straightforward than the last one. You stand side by side to Thor and you both share a glance that says, We'll save this for later. Your magic washes over you and you wait as a woman walks out of the portal. A woman, you realize, that looks a lot like yourself. Not a familial resemblance, no, but the way she carries herself, the sly deadly slant in her eyes. Your fingers twitch by your sides.

Hela. "He's gone then. Shame. I would have liked to see that."

The whole conversation unnerved you. Like little hallmarks to your character, shared across Odin's legacy. The only difference is the sheer power she held in her hands, shattering Mjolnir like a children's toy. Panicked, you call for the Bifrost. You had to leave. You and Thor — she'd kill you both. A twisted mirror here to haunt you.

But even in the Bifrost, she chases you. You fling a dagger at her, but she deflects it with ease. It catches you at your side and you're —

— falling. ]

[He returns to himself with a gasp, stumbling backwards as the sensation of falling still rushes through him. But he isn't falling, not really, so he regains his footing. Thor remembers the same thing of course, just from his own perspective. Neither he nor Loki had been prepared for what Hela was ... what she could do.

Not having the heart to try the tapestry of his friends, Thor turns away and looks around the observatory. It's only now that he sees the open doorway leading to the Bifrost, and Loki standing upon it. Straightening up, he walks out there swiftly, not wanting to poke around here any further until he had spoken to his brother.]

Loki - there you are.

[ Loki seems a little … different. Someone seems to have taken a brush to his face, because there are swathes of blue in a zig-zag pattern and one of his eyes seem to be a dark, blood red. His form seems to flicker on and off as if he’s not truly there and his voice tends to distort, like radio static. When you step onto the bridge, you can hear the siren song of the V̵̙͓̦̺͆͗̋ͩ̒ͅo͓͓̹͎̪ͪ͂ͧ̓ͨ̋͞i̭͎̹͍ͤ͊̆d͏͓͔̭̜͚, calling for your oblivion. ]

Thor. You made it.

[The flickering had slowed Thor's pace, and seeing the odd slashes of blue on Loki's face brings him to a halt. It's a jarring mixture of known and unknown, and for a moment Thor isn't sure what it means. Only, he does. Of course he does. He's just never seen it before ... and doesn't know if this is how it's supposed to look.

When Loki speaks in that strange distorted tone it only makes him frown with concern.]

I did. Were you waiting for me?

[He pushes on regardless, stepping up next to Loki without looking at the Void just yet.]

No. I merely knew you'd come here soon enough.

[Try as he might to keep his attention on Loki, the insidious sound of the Void gets under Thor's skin anyway. In this space, at this time, Thor's less chained by his daily regrets. But they all come back to him in a rising tide the longer he stays here, getting their claws around his throat. He stares at his fingers for a moment, flexing them despite the lack of feeling, before looking back to Loki.

His expression hardens and he grabs Loki by the upper arm, hauling him a few steps back from the edge.]

Yet not soon enough it seems. Get away from there.

[ loki starts slightly, but doesn't seem bothered by thor's manhandling as they move away from the void. ]

I won't fall anymore.

Good.

[Loki hadn't looked as though he was about to jump in, but just being here seems pointlessly harmful.]

There's still no need to stare at it.

[ loki shrugs. ]

I simply find myself there. In case I forget.

Is that really likely to happen?

[Granted, Thor doesn't know much of what happened to Loki in the Void. What he knows is that Loki hates to even mention it. And now he knows who he met on the other side. Shaking his head, Thor lets go of Loki's arm once they're back within the doorway.]

It's terrible.

[ his lips twitch slightly. ]

Even terrible things should not be forgotten.

[Heaving a sigh, Thor tips his head back and drags his gaze across the dome of the observatory.]

No. I know that. That's not what I'm saying.

I know. You are concerned.

But it is not as bad as it looks.

[ the cracks used to be wider. this place was not so neat and orderly. and what is important is kept safe. the healing process slowed down a bit due to recent events, but it will come again. ]

[Surveying the cracks leading up to the centre where Mjolnir rests, Thor has to wonder. He jerks his thumb over his shoulder, back towards where the Void is.]

That looks much worse than anything in here, Loki.

[Probably there are unfortunate things lying under the surface, much like when he touched the tapestries. But he isn't overly worried about how this place looks. As Loki says, it isn't so bad.]

[ he shrugs. ]

It's usually quieter.

[ a brief unusual note of hesitation. ]

It only changed of late.

[Thor's silent for a long few moments, melancholy settling into his expression. He doesn't need to ask why it changed. He can guess well enough. What happened had changed them both, though Thor doesn't remember the particulars of how it altered his own mind. Loki's visit to him in that strange space was akin to watching actors on a dark stage, moving around and gesturing to objects that were only pantomime. He had to use his imagination for the rest.]

I looked at the tapestries.

[ ah. loki glances at them before looking back at thor, the vaguest air of bemusement. ]

You're wondering about yours. Why it did not respond.

A little, yes.

[It's actually a lot but since Loki already got to the point--]

I had thought, since it looked closer to Mother's... it would do the same thing.
