[ She smiles ]

[ She'll spin on her heel, turning to walk among some of the other plants ... before stopping at an arrangement of acacia ]

[ she'll still hold onto the flower she already has but ok we can try something else ]

Actually, the two of them would look pretty nice in a vase together ...

[ She peers at the zinnia in her hand again, before turning to clip off some acacia. She holds it up next to the zinnia, for Nova's approval ]

[ a smile, for Ino's benefit ]

[ She'll move to tuck it into Nova's grasp, then, which of course triggers another memory.

Ino is much smaller this time -- she looks no more than 6 or 7 at the most. This time, however, she isn't alone -- she's standing in front of a smaller girl with pink hair, who is sniffling and crying behind her. She has her arms outstretched, as though she's protecting the other girl from something.

She yells, calling after some other children who seem to be running away from the scene, now ]

Y'know, it'll save you a lot of time next time if you just skip to the part where you go crying to your moms!

[ But once she seems satisfied that they have, indeed, gone crying to their moms, she turns towards the other girl, crouching down to be more on her level. ]

Hey ... c'mon, they're just stupid bullies. Don't pay any attention to them.

[ This doesn't seem to help the other girl much. She's rubbing her eyes furiously, the ends of her long, stringy bangs wet with tears and sticking to her face.

Ino reaches over with one hand to smooth back those bangs, though, revealing the other girl's face properly. ]

They're only making fun of it because you're trying so hard to hide it. You should be proud! You've got a cute face, under all that hair.

[ The other girl looks at Ino with wide green eyes, clearly not expecting the compliment ... before the two of them fade away and Nova's feet are firmly planted inside the flower shop again. ]

[ Nova smiles, more genuinely this time ]

Is that your sister?

[ino]

[ Ino laughs a little, nostalgic and fond ]

My best friend from home. Her name's Sakura.

You took good care of her, in any event.

[ino]

I tried to, anyways.

[ Ino tucks a stray hair behind her ear ]

The other kids used to make fun of her 'cause her forehead was kinda big. It was pretty cruel of them, honestly ... but I guess that's the way a lot of kids act sometimes.

Kids are cruel. Most of them, anyway. It's important to protect the ones who aren't.

[ino]

Yeah.

[ She leans back on the counter, now, putting her chin back in her palm ]

She grew up to be a beautiful flower, herself.

"Sakura" is another name for the cherry blossom.

[ It's partially a joke, but ... ]

She's one of the most talented warriors in the village. Her talent with healing is second to pretty much none.

Kind of sounds like Prim. Well, except the warrior part. But the flower and the healing.

[ino]

Oh ... so "Prim" is short for "Primrose", then?

[takeabow]

Yeah, exactly.

[ino]

Huh.

[ She has to take a moment to remember the meaning. Primrose ... "I can't live without you".

... Well, that's just cruel. ]

It's a pretty name.
