I have an important request. I need someone who can make cheese. Do cheese makers have an old timey name like cobblers and haberdashers or are those only for clothes? Anyway, calling all of those.

Cheese doesn't seem to be a thing here from what I can tell, but we're just one ingredient away from some really great pizza. I have no idea what cheese requires other than cows or goats or something. I grew up so close to Wisconsin, but I feel like I learned so little.

I would also accept alternative cheese. I know there were vegan kinds made out of hopes and dreams or something I assume. I can pay you or share the finished pizza or do something in trade if I had skills. I could beat someone up for you maybe. [She's not going to do that. Probably.] We'll work it out.

[ since kitty has been out with kurt during the day, they've decided to just meet at the carnival - it increases their odds of actually making it to the carnival, after all. so once he gets off work, winn grabs a quick shower and a change of clothes - choosing some of the local wear he picked up because carnivals and cosplay just go hand-in-hand in his head, and he secretly thinks he pulls it off pretty well - and heads out to wait right by the entrance, as they agreed.

she'll find him there, reading his notes with a concentration so intense, he actually seems oblivious to the world around him. ]

[She almost doesn't recognize him out of his standard Winn clothing but anyone that distracted has to be her man, right? She just stops and looks at him affectionately because her heart is pretty full from what happened at the tree and any little extra bit makes it overflow. Winn is more than just "a little exta bit."]

Who wants a date to the carnival?

[ and her man it is indeed. his brain sort of recognizes that words were said in a voice that's familiar to him, but it still takes him a moment to realize that maybe that means they were said to him, and maybe that means he should look up and reply to whoever it is that was speaking.

or. admit he has no idea what was just said.

he smiles warmly at her, and shuts his notes, hurrying to stand up and kiss her hello and - wow there sure are a lot of feelings coming through right off the bat, he almost feels lightheaded at the intensity of it all. ]

Hey -- good day?

Best day. [She hugs him tightly.] I went to that tree people talk about and it gave me something.

[ he returns the hug warmly, so happy to see her - and feel her - happy. ]

Yeah? What'd you get?

[She pulls back, smiling at him before she reaches into her bag and pulls out a picture frame and shows it to him.]

They're my parents.

Oh wow -- [ that's an amazing gift -- he kinda wants to go and give that tree a hug for her, now. he looks at it with reverence, and doesn't make a move to touch it, he knows what this means to her, and he doesn't have to be holding her to figure it out.

he smiles. ]

You think so? [That makes her smile. Anything she can carry on for them she wants to. It's part of why she didn't change her last name to Rasputin when she was married. Not that there was any official process left for doing such things legally and some people still used it. But to her it was still Pryde.]

I didn't have anything of them for so long and then one of my last days in Marina I got a disc with a video on it of me at a dance recital and them telling me they loved me. I arrived without it. [And that hurt almost as much as losing her friends.] This is pretty great too.

[ the truly important thing is that she never hyphenate if she marries winn. kitty pryde-schott? or worse. schott-pryde. someone has to put a stop to the puns! ]

Yeah -- yeah I do. [ he kisses the top of her head. ] You look like your mom with your dad's coloring.

[ that's just cruel, to give her something like that only to take it away a few days later. in a moment of panic, he can't help but worry that this is a trend, that her having this picture is a sign he only has a few days to get her to national city or she'll be gone. he forces himself to swallow it down. ]

We can see about making you copies - a second locket?

[She carefully puts the photo back in her bag, wrapping an extra shirt she'd thrown in there earlier around it for safety and then she goes right back to hugging him. He requires so much hugging.] I wouldn't stop you from that project. [So much love in her heart. No room for fear about what might get taken from her when she's standing here with Winn and a photo of her parents.]

[ her love is almost overwhelming, and it's impossible not to get swept up in it. ]

As you wish.

[ he says, meaning 'I love you'. smiling, he just holding her for as long as she needs. ]

More kissing. [She finds his lips and shows him how very glad she is to have him in a moderately appropriate way for public.]

[ it's rapidly becoming difficult for him to keep it moderately appropriate for public, so he pulls back after a moment, flushed and grinning. ]

Best day indeed.

[ yeah if they met at the inn they definitely wouldn't have made it to the carnival. he's more than half considering just heading back now anyway, but she really wanted to go. ]

[She pulls back breathless, but laughing as much as she can.] I do really want to see the carnival. [And then whispered against his ear.] And I want the other thing afterward. Twice.

[ he looks deeply into her eyes and - ]

So tell me about the Cubs. Be specific - spare no dull detail - [ because he's going to need to get seriously distracted from her to be able to function in the carnival after what she just said. ]

Oh, I'll tell you so many stories. Did you know there's ivy growing over the outfield walls? If a ball lands in it and gets stuck then the batter is awarded a ground-rule double. True story.

Really? [ looking very fascinated! ] I didn't know that! Quick question -- what's a ground-rule double?

[That just gets a laugh and a kiss on the cheek.] It's good that you're pretty. [And smart and loving and accomplished and funny and thoughtful.]

They didn't ask about baseball in my beauty pageants, cut me some slack.

[ he shrugs. ]

[That gets a laugh.] Okay, tell me what you'd do to achieve world peace instead then.

[ proudest of smiles! and she gets to feel just how accomplished making her laugh makes him feel. ]

Easy! Help Supergirl kick butt. [ he nods ]

[He gets a light arm punch.] Wow, your girlfriend can hear you. Talking about other world savers. [What? She gets weird about the "hero" word.]

She knew what she was getting into when she met me.

[ he heard her - when she said she's tired of fighting. he won't assume she'll join forces with kara when they get back home (when, always when). they could have a simple life, and he'd be just as happy and proud of her.

he'll still help kara, though. ]

Besides, Supergirl comes with the best toys - oh my god their computers - Kitty I'd sell my soul for that setup - [ not literally, but he'd give up most things for it! oh, the deo may be a scary shadowy organization, but they have the best tech ]

Winn, I can assure you she had no idea what she was getting into when she met you. [She says it so fondly and with such love coming through the connection. She never could have predicted any of this.

She finds herself listening to the flow of his thoughts and musing quietly for a moment.] I don't know how tired I am of it. I miss it a lot too. [Helping people, but also the camaraderie, the action, the thrill.] I don't really know what I want.

But when we get there we should definitely work on a more intense computer setup for you. [She bets she could help with that. Even adapting tech they can come across to be more functional.]

[ that wave of affection stops all the joking retorts he comes up with in their tracks, and instead he just smiles at her. ]

Well, we can decide when we're home.

[ god, does it feel good to say it out loud - to say it to kitty. he hated having to keep it in, it felt like it was eating him up inside, like he always had to be on his guard not to slip. being able to say it is unbelievably liberating. ]

I'd love that. [ building computers with the love of his life? yes please! ]
