"My mind's like a deadly disease..."

Who: Wanda Maximoff
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Starstruck
When: Now

Broadcast - Text

[Wanda's presence, both in the Fleet's comms and aboard its vessels, has dwindled, slowly but surely, over the course of the past month. There was period of time, around the beginning of the month, when she couldn't be found or reached at all--save for by Misty, Vision and Pietro. More perceptive fleet members might recall that her disappearance occurred around the time that rumors of a dragon and its rider terrorizing Solrius were circulating about. However, she did pop back up a little while later, seemingly as though nothing was wrong. However, those that know her well may have picked up the subtle tells that there was something she was not saying. Something that she was trying to bury. And so, she became more and more scarce around the Fleet. At least, until now...]

What do you think happens after death?

[The message is short and simple. Anyone familiar with the festivities of the month of October, perhaps this is simply her way of trying to get into the spirit of things?]

Starstruck - Action

[Friends and shipmates of Wanda's, if they want to go looking for her, will find her either holed up in her bunkroom aboard the Starstruck, or in a corner of the ship's kitchen or shuttle bay at times she thinks no one would typically wander in. By the look on her face, it is clear something is troubling her.]

On Krypton, we believed that those who died a warrior's death would live eternal in Rao's light.

[Natasha had noticed Wanda's absence. She's let the girl have her space considering that they aren't all that close, but when Wanda resurfaces she notices and she responds.]

What brings on that question?

[Natasha doesn't volunteer an answer; she doubts it's one anyone will enjoy.]

back home most people believe that if your soul still has more to do, you come back in a new life, whatever that is. but if not then you stay with the goddess in paradise

dunno what i think personally. i guess i should think about it more

I'm not sure. My education tells me what happens medically, but otherwise... it's a big question mark.

What brought this on?

It may be different for other peoples' worlds, but in my own, peoples' souls move on to the afterlife.

When you die, you go to the Underworld.

I've been there. It's unpleasant.

How do you suppose "death" is defined?

I think that what happens after is that people's spirits move on... to whatever the afterlife is for them, at least. Sometimes people linger with us in their own way - through memories and things. Where I'm from there's also a place called the Spirit World where people who have moved on from life can go if they still feel they aren't quite so finished with the things they want to experience. I knew someone who was like that. He felt more comfortable living among spirits than he did just moving to the afterlife. He wanted to experience more adventures.

Sorry that was a lot to type out, I realize. My point is - it's different for everyone.

Quiet. It's very quiet.

[ It's a subject he is well versed in, considering his past, and now that he is several years removed from it, it is easier to talk about the subject, though he is, as usual, not forthcoming on, precisely, how he knows this. ]

[ he sees the network post but texting always seems like a distanced sort of communication, not quite what the subject requires. so steve goes in search. it takes more time than usual but when he finally finds her at the corner of the shuttle bay, he takes off his jacket and places it around her shoulders, moving to sit next to her. ]

Good to see you, Wanda.

[ it's nothing but honest. it has been a while. ]

[Erik stares at the communicator for a long time, going back and forth on whether to comment or not. Not to reply to the question itself, no. That's a question he can't bear to think about much, hitting too close to home even three months on.

He hasn't seen Wanda in ten years, not since he'd spoken with her and Pietro about other worldly connections. And now it's clearer than ever for him that whatever they might be in other worlds, it isn't the same in his own. Even so.]

[ of all the possible places and in all the possible circumstances, peggy could never have anticipated feeling this bloody maternal -- and over someone outside of her own time, of her own country, of her own context. but she can read the pain in every infrequent conversation she has with wanda. unwilling to be overbearing, she's let it slide...

until today.

ritual asserts itself. like so many times before now, she prepares a little tray for two. mugs, steaming with hot tea. makeshift biscuits. milk and sugar. peggy balances them on her arm when she knocks on wanda's door. ]

I'm coming in. [ she announces. ] Whether you answer or not.

[Max is wandering the ship as he's usually found to do when they're back on their trip through space; he is his most restless during these times, the most difficult to keep pinned down and relaxed. It's not that he ignores her text — he just isn't sure how to go about responding to it. He has to think on it.

But as he ends up taking up space near her, he figures he... could try to respond.

His back is to her as he makes himself a drink, but his voice is low and subdued.]

Like to think Heaven exists for good people.

Dunno, though.

... Probably.]

[Kurt stares at the question for nearly an hour, drafting and erasing messages that range from comforting lies to inquiries about her health. In the end, the one he sends is the truth.]

Vivid hallucinations as your brain begins to die from lack of oxygen, accompanied by the worst headache you will never have. The pain fades before the sensations do. Loved ones are common to see or hear calling for you; normally dead ones but you might see the living as well. Your sight will begin fading into white.

And then, apparently, you wake up a captive on an alien ship.
